The earth has trembled in Portugal! An earthquake of 5.3 on the Richter scale was recorded around 9 p.m. today in Madeira, and was felt throughout the region. According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Portuguese Atmosphere (IPMA), the earthquake occurred at 8:58 p.m. in the Atlantic Ocean southwest of the Desertas Islands, having reached a magnitude of 5.3 on Richter scale. It is the largest earthquake in Madeira's memory in Madeira, but so far no injuries or major damage has been recorded. An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale was recorded off Peniche this Thursday, November 1, 2018. The earthquake was felt in the municipality of Figueira da Foz and in several localities of the districts of Porto, Braga , Coimbra, Leiria and even Lisbon. According to information from IPMA, the earthquake caused neither material damage nor material damage. The epicenter was about 480 kilometers west of Peniche. An earthquake with an intensity of 4.9 on the Richter Scale was felt today Monday, January 15, 2018 at 11:51 in much of central Portugal. Moderate intensity shocks were recorded as far back as Lisbona ns Coimbra.

 

This earthquake has a depth of 16 kilometers and is located at a distance of 100 kilometers east of Lisbon, not far from Évora. Some witnesses are reported until the city of Coimbra.
