The Portuguese government will maintain the "alert" situation for most of the country, the state of contingency for the Lisbon metropolitan area and that of calamity for 19 municipalities of the AML, Mariana Vieira da Silva announced on Monday.

The Minister of the Portuguese Presidency declared that "the same rules as these last 15 days will be maintained, to have the country generally on alert, the metropolitan area of Lisbon in a state of contingency and 19 municipalities in a state of calamity".

According to the minister, who spoke at a press conference in Lisbon, the measure was taken after hearing the presidents of the municipalities of Lisbon, Sintra, Loures, Amadora and Odivelas (all in the district of Lisbon), where are the 19 most affected parishes.

With the maintenance of these various states of alert implemented since July 1, the associated restrictions remain in force, such as the obligation to close most commercial establishments at 8:00 p.m., the prohibition of the sale of alcohol in petrol stations and limitation of gatherings up to 10 people in the Lisbon metropolitan area.

In the 19 municipalities affected by the state of calamity, gatherings are limited to five people. The numbers are improving, however. In fact, the incidence rate of covid-19 per 100,000 population in the region has dropped from 154 patients to 121. There is still a "significant number" of contagions and the virus is still transmitted in the community.

"We think it is necessary to maintain the same level of vigilance, despite the fact that the incidence rate has improved in the last 15 days," he said, adding that the figures "require a constant assessment "and that there is" a decreasing situation which must be consolidated. ".
