New mandatory lockdown in 19 parishes of Lisbon aera

The Portuguese government will once again impose lockdown and stay-at-home duty, a measure that had already been lifted across the country. This will apply in the 19 parishes in the Lisbon region that will remain in a state of calamity, confirmed the newspaper l'Observador, after the newspaper Público declared that this hypothesis was on the table at the meeting of the Council of Ministers Portuguese this morning.

After Monday, an extraordinary Council of Ministers and not in person legislated to tighten the rules in the metropolitan area of Lisbon to stop rallies in cafes, terraces and on the street. This Thursday's Council of Ministers is working on specific legislation for the 19 parishes that the government has identified as the most critical in the Lisbon region, to monitor and isolate cases of contagion to break these active chains of transmission, but also on broader legislation at all levels throughout the territory.

It is a serious obstacle to the Portuguese deconfinement plan, which António Costa himself has always said that he would not hesitate to do if the strategy did not go as planned. Experts and epidemiologists from DGS who met with policy makers at Infarmed headquarters on Wednesday were unable to reassure the country about what was happening in the Lisbon region and did not align themselves in the talk about the fact that there are only more cases because there are more tests.

There are more tests, yes, but there are also more positive cases per test performed - which is not a good indicator. Lisbon was among the first in the European class to manage the coronavirus crisis, but it seems that it is actually affected later than others. The tourist season looks bad for Lisbon.

This new lockdown will take effect for 15 days, starting at 00:00 on July 1st and until 23 : 59 of July 14th.
