5 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Portugal

Portugal now has 5 cases of coronavirus on its territory. A new positive case of infection with the new coronavirus, Covid-19, has been diagnosed in Portugal. This new case is a man who is admitted to the São João hospital in Porto. The patient is around 40 years old and has recently returned from Italy. This is the fifth confirmed case in Portugal. On Monday March 2, the first two patients infected with the new coronavirus, which appeared in the city of Wuhan, in China, in December, were confirmed. The most recent case of Covid-19 in Portugal is a man who is admitted to the Hospital de São João, in Porto, according to RTP. The patient is about 40 years old and recently returned from Italy.

This is the fifth confirmed case in Portugal. On Monday (March 2) the first two patients infected with the new coronavirus, which appeared in the city of Wuhan, China, in December, were confirmed.

He is a 60-year-old man who had symptoms on 29 February, with an epidemiological link to northern Italy, where he was on vacation. The patient is a doctor at the Centro Hospitalar do Tâmega e Sousa. He is admitted to the Hospital de Santo António, in Porto.

The other patient, admitted to the Hospital de São João, is a 33-year-old man, who registered his first symptoms on February 26 and has an epidemiological connection to Valencia, Spain, where he works in the field of construction.

On Tuesday (March 3) there were two new confirmations of infection. The two patients are a 60-year-old man, admitted to the São João Hospital, in Porto, and a 37-year-old man to the Curry Cabral Hospital, in Lisbon.

According to a statement from the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), both patients have a known connection to other confirmed cases of Covid-19.

In the report released on Tuesday, DGS indicated that there is an infected person residing in Coimbra (district). DGS also confirmed that after the two "imported" cases, one from Italy and the other from Spain, the next two cases of infection were due to contagion within the country.
