Sharks sometimes come to have fun near the Portuguese coast, and that's what obviously happened this Sunday, August 2nd. three Algarve beaches have hoisted the red flag after a shark was spotted near Tavira. More fear than harm. A shark was seen on Tavira beach in the Algarve. The alleged sighting by people of a shark led this Sunday afternoon to raise the red flag for three beaches for about an hour and a half. During this period, a jet ski scoured the coast, but found no animals.

Rui Andrade, commander of the Tavira harbor master's office, told the Portuguese newspaper JN that the alert was given by the lifeguard at Terra Estreita beach, located in Santa Luzia, Tavira at around 1:20 p.m., following the reports swimmers who said they saw a shark approaching the coast.

“In order to preserve the integrity of the population, as always in these cases, we raised the flag on three beaches, Terra Estreita, Barril and Ilha de Tavira. Then the area was covered by a jet ski, but no signs were found indicating the presence of such an animal, ”the official told JN newspaper.

The event ended around 2:45 p.m. when the green flag was hoisted again and swimmers from all three beaches were able to return to the water.
