6 districts under orange alert

The districts of Viseu, Porto, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Aveiro and Coimbra will be on orange alert between 6 p.m. today and 3 a.m. Tuesday due to the forecast of waves of five to six meters high, which can reach nine or 10 meters, with gusts of wind up to 85 km / h, especially along the coast.

The IPMA also placed the districts of Lisbon, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, Braga and Leiria under yellow alert due to the forecast of heavy maritime disturbances, with waves of four and five meters until 3:00 am Tuesday.

The Portuguese National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) has also issued a warning to the population of the districts of Aveiro, Braga, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Guarda, Porto Viana do Castelo and Viseu, due to the worsening weather conditions over the next 48 hours.

The ANEPC has reinforced the information already published by the IPMA indicating that periods of temporary intense rain are expected north of the mountain system of Montejunto-Estrela, becoming strong and persistent in the late afternoon.

There will also be favorable conditions for thunderstorms and strong gusts, with the possibility of snowfall at the highest points of the Serra da Estrela overnight.

Be careful if you need to go outside

In the districts mentioned, there is also the possibility of moderate to strong wind (30 to 45 km / h) in the late afternoon, sometimes with gusts up to 85 km / h, especially in the Center region.

In the highlands, the wind will be moderate to strong (30 to 50 km / h) from the southwest, with gusts up to 80 km / h, becoming strong to very strong (45 to 65 km / h) in the Center region since the end of the afternoon, with gusts up to 120 km / h.
