Spain is one of the countries most affected by the coronavirus epidemic at European and even global level, but the incessant hype has clearly not been enough to encourage Spaniards to get vaccinated en masse. Indeed and while the vaccine is supposed to arrive shortly, a survey by the newspaper El Pais shows that the Spanish are rather reluctant to be vaccinated with 24% who want to do it as soon as possible, and 40% believe that the vaccine is part of a conspiracy. Lisbob, the expatriate assistant, tells you all about what the Spanish think about the coronavirus and the vaccine.

Mentalities changed significantly in Spain during the first wave of March / April and that of this autumn. Indeed the Spaniards are no longer so convinced of wanting to be vaccinated. Precisely 24.1% would like to be vaccinated as soon as possible against covid-19, and 36.9% would choose to wait a little before doing so, 20.6% would only be vaccinated if it was strictly necessary and 13.1% would not even consider doing so. This is data from the 40dB survey for EL PAÍS, carried out just before Pfizer's announcement on the effectiveness of its vaccine.

While these results may be surprising, they coincide with many other previous studies, both in Spain and in other European countries. Only 40.2% of Europeans want to be vaccinated "immediately" and 43.8% do not.

The survey covered a panel of 2,000 interviews conducted online between October 30 and November 6.

In order to be able to deal with possible suspicions about the vaccine, the Spanish Ministry of Science has taken an interest in this problem, and has indicated that it should use pedagogy, learning and persuasion to ensure that the Spanish vaccination campaign be as large and efficient as possible.

Among other questions posed to the panel polled by 40db for El Pais, 8.1% think 5G influences the spread of the coronavirus, and 15.8% think covid-19 is not that dangerous and is like the flu .

Regarding the time needed before the situation returns to “normal”, 42.9% think it will take more than two years, 40% between one and two years, and 7% think that we will never return to normal .
